# Custom code editor instructions

## Present candidates with a modal before beginning a coding challenge

**Note:** Custom code editor instructions are available to customers on our **Bundle** subscription or within the [Branding & Customization add-on](https://help.coderbyte.com/knowledge/add-ons?hsLang=en).

To create and manage custom code editor instructions for the modal, navigate to the **Custom library** main tab and then click **Messages.**

In the modal, choose **Code editor instructions** and add any custom instructions for your candidates.

Once your custom messages have been created, you can now head to the Assessment settings and choose which code editor instruction template to include.

Before candidates begin any coding challenge, they are presented with a modal with instructions. They can click "I understand" to close the modal and begin the coding challenge.
