Make challenges optional or required

Note: Question optionality is available to customers on our Bundle subscription or within the Advanced customization add-on.

If your Assessment has at least 2 challenges within a section, you can choose for each candidate to only be able to submit a certain number of challenges within that respective section. Common use cases are:

  • You have virtually identical custom challenges for different coding languages, and want to give the candidate the option to complete the challenge in their preferred language
  • You have similarly difficult challenges but only give the candidate time to solve a subset of the challenges

Open the desired Assessment, click Edit, and then navigate to the challenges section. You will see an option to enable or disable optionality, with an input for how many challenges you'd like each candidate to be able to submit.

You cannot change this setting once candidates have already taken your Assessment. You cannot use optionality combined with randomization or with progressive loading.

Within the Assessment, candidates will see that they can open any of the challenges but only submit up to the number you've set.
