Use Assessments without collecting any personally identifiable information (PII) from candidates

By default, Coderbyte collects first name, last name, and email address. If you'd like to use Coderbyte but limit collection of candidate data, you have several options.

Option #1: Reduce bias in hiring decisions

First, you can anonymize all candidate data so that only Owners can see the candidate's email address, while all other Users will see a random ID.

Option #2: Do not collect any personally identifiable information

If you'd prefer not to collect any personally identifiable information whatsoever, follow these steps (and you can use this Spreadsheet template):

  1. In your Applicant Tracking System, spreadsheet, or tool of your choice, assign each of your candidates an ID.
  2. For any assessment you'd like to invite a candidate to, click Copy public invite link. The link will look something like this:
    https://coderbyte.com/sl-candidate?promo=coderbyteengineering:technical-assessment-n2mjvkt5cz
  3. At the end of the URL, append the following where ID matches the ID in your mapping assignment:
    &email=ID&name=anonymous
  4. With this approach which can be done manually or with our API, Coderbyte will not collect any personally identifiable information about candidates. All Users will need access to your internal ID mapping assignment to identify individual candidates.
