Video explanation

For assessments, you can enable video explanation to ensure that (i) candidates are who they say they are and (ii) that the candidate independently worked on their solution.

Note: You can collect up to 200 video responses per month (and up to 500 if you have the Premium Analytics add-on), which includes videos recorded from free-form questions. Once you hit the limit, video explanation requirements will be disabled for candidates. You can increase your monthly limit from your Billing page.

Enabling video explanation

To enable video explanation, edit your assessment and then add a challenge from the library. You will see the option to toggle on video explanation.

Candidate assessment

For challenges with video explanation enabled, candidates will see an option to explain their solution after they have submitted their challenge solution.

Upon submitting their challenge, candidates will be presented with a sample of their code and be asked to explain it via webcam recording:

Candidate report

Video explanation recordings will display within the candidate report, and can include an optional text transcription if the AI feature is enabled in your account settings. Expand all solutions to see the sample code and corresponding video explanation.

By default, candidates will not be flagged for suspicious activity if they skip the video explanation.

If you do want candidate reports to flag suspicious activity when candidates skip the video explanation, then you can enable video explanation required in your assessment settings. First, edit the assessment, and then, under the section "Cheating Detection," select Yes to Video explanation detected.

Note: Detecting video explanation skipping is available to customers on our Bundle subscription or within the Branding & customization add-on.
